DESCRIPTION

CALCIUM POLYSTYRENE SULPHONATE belongs to a group of medications called 'ion exchange resins'. K SHAPE contains calcium polystyrene sulphonate, which is administered to decrease potassium's blood levels in the body, reducing the risk of 'hyperkalemia' due to high potassium levels. It works by eliminating excess potassium from your system in order to restore your levels to normal.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate is used to treat hyperkalemia in CKD patients.

DOSAGE

The recommended dose of K SHAPE is 

For Adults

Oral Route: The recommended starting dose is 15 gm 3-4 times a day in water or as a suspension in the sweetened vehicle.

Rectal Route: As the suspension of 30 gm of CPS powder in 150 ml water or 10% dextrose in water as an enema.

For Children:

Oral Route: The initial dose is 1 gm/kg BW.

Rectal Route: The initial dose is 1 gm/kg BW as a suspension in 150 ml water or 10% dextrose in water as an enema.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

If the patient is hypersensitive to polystyrene sulphonate resins.

If the patient is suffering from hypokalemia
