DESCRIPTION

Sevelamer Carbonate is a medication used to manage high levels of phosphate in the blood, a condition known as hyperphosphatemia. Sevelamer Carbonate is a polymeric amine and works by binding to dietary phosphate in the digestive tract, preventing its absorption and lowering phosphate levels. It acts as an ion exchange resin, free of metal and calcium.

INDICATIONS

To treat hyperphosphatemia in CKD patients.

DOSAGE

The recommended starting dose of Sevtreat for serum phosphorus levels more than 5.5 mg/dl, but less than 7.5 mg/dl is 0.8 gm thrice daily. For serum phosphorus levels more than 7.5 mg/dl is 1.6 gm thrice daily with meals.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Sevelamer Carbonate is contraindicated in patients with bowel obstruction. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sevelamer carbonate, sevelamer hydrochloride, or to any of the excipients.
