PRESENTATION
SUCROPLUS (Iron Sucrose Injection USP) is available as 20 mg/ml in 5 ml Ampoule.
DESCRIPTION
SUCROPLUS (Iron Sucrose) injection is in a class of medications called iron replacement products. It works by replenishing iron stores so that the body can make more red blood cells. The chemical formula of iron sucrose is C12H29Fe5Na2O23. The iron sucrose molecule is a polymer with two main molecules; sucrose (chemical formula C12H22O11) and an iron (III) hydroxide (Na2Fe5O83(H2O)). These two components are in solution together, but are not bound to one another.
INDICATIONS AND USAGE
Intravenous iron sucrose is a commonly used treatment for iron deficiency anemia. Iron sucrose replaces iron in the blood to foster red blood cell production in patients with chronic kidney disease.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Haemodialysis-dependent CKD: 100 mg elemental iron IV (injection or infusion over 2-5 min) per dialysis session not to exceed total cumulative dose of 1000 mg divided in 3 doses/week.
Non-dialysis-dependent CKD: 200 mg IV injection for 5 doses in over 14 days (cumulative 1000 mg in 14-day period).
Peritoneal dialysis-dependent CKD: 300 mg IV infusion (1.5 hr) for 2 doses 14 days apart, Then 400 mg IV infusion (2.5 hr) 14 days later (cumulative 1000 mg divided in 3 doses/month).
SUCROPLUS (Iron Sucrose) injection is administered intravenously.
CONTRAINDICATION
SUCROPLUS (Iron Sucrose) injection should not be given to patients with evidence of iron overload, known hypersensitivity to iron sucrose or its inactive components and in patients with anemia not caused by iron deficiency.
